Harford County Jail Roster

The Harford County jail roster is a public resource that lists individuals currently held in the county detention center in Maryland. HarfordCourt.us can help you find publicly available information about current and recent inmates, including booking details and charges. You can also access jail roster information through the Harford County Sheriff's Office website, by calling the detention center directly, or by visiting in person. The roster allows the public to verify whether someone is in custody, review the charges against them, and confirm basic booking information. Maintained by the Harford County Sheriff's Office — which operates the county's detention center — the roster is updated regularly and serves as a transparency tool for the community.

Search Current Inmates in Harford Jail

There are several ways to search for someone currently held at the Harford County Detention Center.

Online Search

  1. Visit HarfordCourt.us to search publicly available court and custody information for Harford County.
  2. You can also check the Maryland Incarcerated Individual Locator, which covers individuals in the custody of the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. Note that this tool may not include everyone held at the county level.
  3. For related court case information, Maryland's Case Search system provides public access to records from both Circuit and District Courts.

To search, you will typically need:

  • The individual's full legal name (first and last)
  • Booking number, if known

Juvenile offenders are excluded from any public roster.

By Phone

Call the Harford County Sheriff's Office at 410-838-6600 during business hours. Staff can confirm whether an individual is currently in custody.

When visiting in person, bring as much identifying information as possible — the inmate's full legal name, date of birth, or booking number will help staff locate the correct record quickly.

Find Harford Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created each time an individual is processed into the Harford County Detention Center. This record captures key details at the time of intake and typically includes:

  • Booking number (a unique identifier assigned to each booking event)
  • Date and time of booking
  • Charges at the time of arrest
  • Arresting agency (Harford County Sheriff's Office, Maryland State Police, Bel Air Police, Aberdeen Police, etc.)
  • Basic personal information such as name, date of birth, and gender

Booking records for current inmates are generally accessible through the jail roster. For older or more detailed records, you may need to submit a formal request. Under the Maryland Public Information Act (MPIA), members of the public can request government records from Harford County agencies, including the Sheriff's Office. Certain information — such as details that could compromise ongoing investigations or endanger individuals — may be redacted or withheld under statutory exemptions.

For criminal history background checks beyond what the jail roster provides, the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services administers a statewide criminal records check process through the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS).

Search the Harford Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The two most common ways to search the Harford County jail roster are by name and by booking number.

Search by Last Name

  1. Enter the individual's last name in the search field. Adding a first name will help narrow results, especially for common surnames.
  2. Use the person's full legal name — nicknames and aliases may not return accurate results.
  3. Double-check spelling. Even a single incorrect letter can cause a search to return no matches.
  4. If the roster displays a browsable list rather than a search field, use your browser's built-in find function (Ctrl+F on Windows, Cmd+F on Mac) to locate a name on the page.

Search by Booking Number

If you have a booking number, enter it directly. This is the most precise search method and will pull up a single record tied to that specific booking event.

What to Do If the Search Returns No Results

  • Verify the spelling of the name and try again.
  • Try searching with just the last name, without a first name, to see all possible matches.
  • The person may have been released, transferred to a state facility, or not yet fully processed into the system.
  • Call the detention center at 410-838-6600 to confirm custody status.
  • If the individual has been transferred to state custody, try the Incarcerated Individual Locator maintained by the Maryland DPSCS.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Harford

The Harford County jail roster is updated on a regular basis, but there is typically some delay between when an individual is physically booked into the detention center and when their information appears online. Processing — which includes fingerprinting, photographing, and entering data into the system — can take several hours depending on the volume of bookings.

Keep these limitations in mind when using the roster:

  • Delay after booking: A newly arrested person may not appear on the roster immediately. If you believe someone was recently arrested, call the Sheriff's Office to confirm.
  • Removal after release: Once an individual is released — whether on bond, by court order, or after serving their sentence — their record is typically removed from the active roster. The roster reflects current custody status, not a historical archive.
  • Data entry lags: Charge information and other booking details may be updated or corrected after initial entry. What appears on the roster at any given moment is a snapshot, not a final record.
  • Transfers: Inmates transferred to state correctional facilities will no longer appear on the county roster. Use the state-level locator for those individuals.
  • Not a comprehensive criminal history: The roster shows current bookings only. It does not function as a criminal background check tool. For formal background checks, contact the Maryland State Police Central Records Division or the DPSCS.

For court case information related to charges listed on the roster, search the Maryland Judiciary Case Search or contact the Harford County Circuit Court Clerk's Office, open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
